News/Announcements - 31 August 2009
* Sponsorship with a major local company is being investigated. More details to follow.

* Anyone interested in free first aid training is welcome to join the list of people on the waiting list to go on this really essential course. If we get enough people we may be able to hold our own course.

* Aqueduct BMX play track is nearly completed bringing the total BMX type tracks in the area to 14. It is hoped that all works will be completed by next week (although it is rideable now! This small play track is very tight but has tarmac berms. This is something we could consider for other sites if successful. An opening event will be in October. More details to follow.

* Arleston Pump Track is proposed to start next month. The work is likely to take about 3-4 weeks and should see the very first local authority woodland pump track available for use in October. No details on opening have yet been agreed.

* Lawley BMX play track (option 1) is shortly to go to the council for planning permission as is the revamp for the Overdale BMX track. It is unlikely that either will be built before the end of the build season so it may not now be until next year until these works are done.

* Donnington Broadoaks is being investigated to provide a medium sized hybrid BMX play track / trail for next year 2010. It is anticipated that a planning application will be submitted by the end of the year.

* Malinslee BMX track is looking to be resurfaced next month as is Newport track (not trails). Leegomery track may also need resurfacing and a working party is required to do this work sometime in early / mid October. Anyone interested contact Derek. Wombridge BMX play track is being investigated to have a major revamp for next year and will be the next bid for capital build (not equipment) funding the club makes.

* The National / Regional track campaign has started. The club has attended the County Sports Partnership AGM and asked the question of why the area does not have a competitive sports facility to meet the needs of the community and the sport in this area. The club are asking all to join the campaign to gain a facility for the club and to contact your local councillor to lobby for a facility / sign and get signatories for a petition (Dan, I don’t suppose you could put on an online petition which requests that the area has a regional/national BMX track? This needs to have a section for the persons name and address. If this was downloadable the individual would be able to take it to school and get them filled in? I suppose it should also have the address to send it to and a return date. Have a stab at drafting it and come back to me if you can. Thanks.

* Funding bids update. As mentioned above Wombridge BMX track revamp is shortly to be put forward to be improved to a local grant aid organisation. A portable pneumatic start gate (possible 2 man) with speakers / traffic lights is shortly to be bid for. It may be possible to also include for a timer system for rider development if funding allows. We will keep you informed.

* Club development plan progress. After a very busy season / year the club can now look towards completing the British Cycling booklet to gain full accreditation to become a Clubmarked club. Clubmark will enable many more opportunities for funding and show other organisations that the club are well run. It is aimed to progress this between October and November with submission for determination by December. Any help in this will be very welcome. Contact 07976 100 463 to help (however small a time you could offer, this will all help.).

* The club are sending a record 7 riders to the British Championships this year nearly doubling last year’s entries. Well done to you all for qualifying and good luck with the racing.
